About Alyssa Saunders Molfese

Alyssa received a full-paid scholarship to attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, with Music and All University Honors and her bachelors degree in Music Education. Additional studies include receiving her masters in music education from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University. Alyssa went on to pursue a second masters degree in speech-language pathology at Kean University and received her M.A. SLP in August, 2012. In addition to her music/therapy studio, she is currently working as a NJ licensed and ASHA (American Speech and Hearing Association) certified speech-language specialist for the North Brunswick Public School system and for Penn Medicine Becker ENT in Monroe, Vorhees, and Robbinsville, NJ as a voice specialist.

Her group teaching endeavors include being the choir director at Lenape Valley High School, Mount Olive High School and adjunct voice at Mendham and West Morris High Schools. Her private voice students have been accepted to institutions such as UNC Chapel Hill, Mason Gross School of the Arts, James Madison University, Westminster Choir College, Penn State and the College of New Jersey. Ms. Saunders has sung with choirs such as  Central Jersey Choral Society, Harmonium, and and the Riverside Chorale in New York City. Her performance credits include classical, musical theatre and opera. Furthermore, Alyssa has served as an adjudicator for solo singing competitions.

Alyssa has conducted research in the area of voice at the Nathan Kline Institute of Psychiatric Research in Orangeburg, New York. Studies include exploring the localization of rhythm and pitch for singing in the brain, as well as acoustic analysis of the speech of patients with Parkinson’s disease.

Her main interest is teaching her students the mechanics of the voice and how to speak and sing efficiently. Alyssa has worked as a trainee with Dr. Anat Keidar, Ph.D., CCC-SLP in New York City where she observed and assisted with hands-on rehabilitation of professional pop, opera, musical theatre singers and music teachers, teaching them correct vocal technique and/or providing vocal therapy for those who have vocal fold pathologies.

Alyssa's teaching has been enhanced by her knowledge of the mind and body. She has been a certified personal trainer, has studied the Alexander Technique (a system for body and mind awareness), yoga, and completed Estill Level 1 training.
